Michelle's Workout 9.25.11

30 Day Shred DVD

I was sweating with Jilian Michael's this afternoon (although, she didn't seem to be sweating quite as much...)

This week was crazy and I didn't get to workout as much as I wanted.  I even had to go into school Saturday and today!  ugh!  This week shouldn't be as crazy.

I really need to find a semi-flat place in Chattanooga to run. Since I'm out of shape, the thought to running on all of those hills is really overwhelming.  When I get overwhelmed thinking about it, I just don't run at all.  I'm going to research some areas.  I also need to sign up for a race... or find one to train for.  Basically, I need to do SOMETHING!  haha.

On another note, when did it become the end of September???

Michelle's Run 9.18.11

Distance: 5k (3.1 miles) Run/Walk

Today I went to a friend's house and parked my car so that I could run in her flatter neighborhood.  I thought for sure I could run 3 miles without stopping.  Ha!  It was a lot easier, but I didn't make it 3 miles.  It was also about 80 degrees.  But I think I'm just more out of shape than I thought.  I'll just have to keep working at it.  I need to come up with a running/workout plan now that the temperatures are cooling off.

Also, I worked out 4 times last week and only once this week.  But this week was sooo busy with work.  I didn't leave school before 5pm any night.  That may seem like no big deal, but I get to school before 7 every morning.  I also had school work to work on almost every night too!  Ugh!  This week is going to be worse, but I'm going to try to squeeze in a few workouts!

I did a 30 Day Shred video this evening.  It would have been a good day to run, but I just didn't get there today.  But this is my 4th workout this week (counting Mon-Sunday as a week).  Go me!  Maybe I'm starting to get back into the swing of things.

I tried a different way around the super hilly neighborhood and it wasn't a good way.  I tried going uphill at the beginning instead of the end and thought it might work out better.  It didn't.  I run up the hill ok, but then I was so tired and hot I had to stop and walk.  Ugh!

Michelle's Run 9.8.11

Yes, you read that right... a Run!!  The weather was just too perfect after school not to run.  I was going for 30 minutes, but only made it about 25.  There were some really steep hills, which I had to walk occasionally.  But overall I felt good about the run and was proud of myself for getting up the energy to run after a long day at school.  Go me!

Side note, I have actually lost some pounds over the last couple of weeks.  I don't know if it's lost muscle, better eating, or something else.

Michelle's Workout 9-6-11

There was flooding in Chattanooga, so I did 2 different 10 minute workouts.  My legs are feeling it today!  Today was the first time in FOREVER that it was actually a runable temperature, I'm hoping that this keeps up so I can possibly, maybe get back to running. haha.

It was a little warm than I excepted, but I found two new neighborhoods that are connected by sidewalks. I have maneuvered a path now to about 8 neighborhoods with only about 20 feet of no sidewalk. I also think I can get to a couple more through another short distance without sidewalks; however, I probably need to get to around my 10 mile goal to include those neighborhoods.

My plan was just to get some kind of run in. I took it slow and was enjoying the 70 degree weather and next thing I knew it had been 5 miles and I still felt great. I don't know my pace exactly, but I left the house about 5:20 and was back a couple of minutes before 7:00pm.

A very much need feel good run !!

Dinner last night was baking pork chops for 30 minutes.  So while they were cooking, I squeezed in a workout.  It worked out well!

It's also helped that this week I have left school before 5pm every night.  Woo hoo!  Now, tomorrow and Friday will probably be another story, but 3 out of 5 isn't bad.

Michelle's Workout 8-28

Another 30 Day Shred video this morning.  Michael did it with me!  It was so nice to get up at 8, workout, and shower all before church.  Why do schools have to start so early???

My goal for this week is to get 2 workouts in during the week.

On another note, even though I haven't been exercising I haven't gained any weight because my classroom is on the third floor and I walk up and down them a lot. Also, while I'm teaching I don't really have access to snacks... so I'm not tempted!  However, the lack of exercising makes me feel flabby and out of shape which I don't like!

Mysti's Run 08-14-2011

HeLLo After a Two Week Vacation from Running and Blogging :) :(

I have had a few mixed feelings about my break from running; however, overall I have not let myself feel guilty. My run felt really good tonight and I am thinking my body might have need the break. School starts tomorrow; therefore, my schedule becomes very busy. It is time to think / plan my running for the Fall. Hope to post something this week.

I finally ran this morning!  It wasn't too hot this morning, so I decided to run for 20 minutes.  It was sooo hilly.  I was either running up or downhill the whole time.  I had to walk at a couple of points because my legs needed a break.  It wasn't the best route for an out of shape girl like me.  Hopefully this week I won't work 10/12 hour days and can get some runs/workouts in.

Excuse my absence, I took a few days off to work on my classroom and look at houses.  The first 30 Day Shred video was getting a little easy, so I decided to do the 2nd one today.  Oh boy, there was a big jump.  I had to start part of the way through because I was getting dizzy!  There is a lot more cardio in this one and a lot of pylometrics.  I have done that stuff since high school track!  But I bet the next time I do it, it will be a little easier.

I had no plans of running while on vacation, but my sister already said she wanted to run some and my mom is all about walking a couple of miles a day now, so looks like I better pack my running shoes. Although it should be interesting where we find to run since our family vacation this year is renting a houseboat for a week. My poor Dad - Always having to put up with three women. :)

I was really feeling it this morning.  Ouch!  However, once I started moving around I felt better.  I still did the 1st level video.  However, tomorrow is that last day it will be on my OnDemand for free, so I'll have to bump up to the next level.  I hope it's not too bad.  haha!  I'm still really enjoying it.  I have even been brave enough to do it in front of Michael (mostly because our apartment is so small he doesn't have anywhere else to go!)

Michelle's workout 7.22.11

30 Day Shred DVD #1

Since running seems to be out of the question right now, I decided to try out Jillian Michael's 30 day shred.  I really enjoyed it and the 20 minutes went by really fast.

Our new apartment is not really in a running friendly area.  We live on a really busy street with no sidewalks and on the side of a big hill.  There is a treadmill in the teeny-tiny workout room, but I haven't gotten that adventurous yet.  So we will see how running goes the next few months.  Since I won't be running as much (more than likely) I am going to be trying to watch what I eat a little more.  Less sugar and carbs mostly.  I'll try to start writing what I eat down and making smart grocery purchases.  Even though I was on vacation for a week, I think I did pretty well with my eatting.  The two days of moving were a little different, since we had to rely on fast food... but I definitely got in a good workout.  It was hard work.  I still have bruises from moving the couch, dresser, etc.

I have been continuing to make small changes on eating healthy on a regular basis. Foods I have regularly been including: fruits, fruit smoothies, salads, baked chips, Subway veggie flat bread when I eat out for lunch, Lunchables with: flat bread sandwich, wheat thins and jello mousse temptations (wonderful !!), can of Dr. Pepper a day at lunch and today I tried a Buddy Fruit for a snack before working out.

Good Run. A little slower pace than normal.

I was glad I was outside by 6:15am, because by 7:00am it was already 81 degrees outside. My goal this morning was to run and be back at the house by 7:15am when John needed to leave for work (6:50am when he has to take Joey). I try to take Joey to the Day Camp as much as possible, because during the summer I often don't leave for work till about 9:30am. I just think 7:10am - 5:30pm is too long of a day; especially for the summer.

Mysti's New Shoes

I have been waiting for the New Balance 880 & 1080 shoe to come out in stores for about two weeks. The employees at the New Balance store in Rogers were a little challenging to work with this time around.

I had gone into the store a couple of weeks ago asking about the new shoes that were already available online and they shared they should be getting them in the follow week. I stopped by this past Tuesday and they had received the shipment; however, had not had time to go through the boxes and the lady said she had no idea what was in the boxes. She stated it would be a day or two; I gave her my name and number and asked her to call me when she knew about the new 880's.

Yesterday (Friday), I was tired of waiting so I returned to the store to notice the boxes had not been touched. I asked the same lady to please look at the invoice from the shipment to find out if the ordered the new 880 or 1080. She looked - nothing, she asked the manager - 880 is not a popular shoes we didn't order it, tired to order them online - nothing. Now the funny part, as she in the back asking her manager to help her with the online order I spotted the new 880 shoe behind the counter in a pile of shoes. As she returns from the back, I state this is the shoe I would like to try on along with the 1080.

The manager also stated at one point that the 759 was the most popular shoe to which I had to share with him that is the shoe I have and the 880 is replacing it this year, thus the same shoe he just stated was not very popular.

Nevertheless...I finally tried on both shoes and decided to buy the 1080; however, I think the coloring on the 880 is so much prettier.

Michelle's Run 7.8.11

Distance: 3 miles (treadmill)

This was my first treadmill run in a while.  This past week I hadn't felt like running AT ALL.  I did lift arm weights and did some lounges, but no cardio.  However, today was the first day in a long time that I wanted to run and then felt good during and after the run.  Lately I haven't even had that "Yay I ran and feel great" feeling after runs.  I'm not sure what the problem is, but today was different and I'm glad.  Of course, next week I will be on vacation, so who knows when I will run again.  But that's ok.  I am giving myself permission to not feel guilty about missing runs.  It just doesn't help me want to run more.  I just feel down about myself.

I haven't gained any weight since I stopped running so much.. but I'm sure there is muscling turning to fat.  I could tell when I looking in the mirror at the workout room.  Ugh!

I definitely should have gone to the beach at the begining of the summer when I was in shape!

Michelle's Workout 7.2.11 (arms)

I did about 30 minutes of arm weights and lunges today up at the weight room.

I saw Bad Teacher yesterday. It was pretty funny and not as vulgar as I expected.  I don't really think Cameron Diaz is that pretty in the face.... but I would KILL for her arms.  Michael would say they are too manly, but I like toned arms.  (I used to have them back in my high school days too... sigh.)  I also wouldn't mind having all of her teacher outfits from the movie either.

I also.... poured water down my back a couple of time, slowed down/walked about 30 seconds every 10 minutes and took it slow in general.

Mysti's Run 06-29-2011

Workout: 20 Minute Run

John and I decided to send Joey to the Rogers Activity Center (RAC) during the day for Summer Day Camp while we have him for 5 weeks starting July 5th. John also signed the family up for a Family Membership which includes a workout room, basketball courts and a jogging track.

Today I ran at the indoor running track and it was great !! The air was so low the first couple of laps my lungs felt like they do when you run in the winter. :)

The workout room is very nice and up to date. I didn't go into the workout room today, because one of my client's fathers was working out on the weight machines. He is a really nice guy and it would have been completely fine...I was just not wanting to talk at 8:30am on my day off.

Running into clients or client's parents I knew could be the downside to the RAC, but seriously I think he is one of three fathers that participates in family therapy and probably the only parent that works out. We shall see how the RAC goes...

Michelle's Run 6.27.11

Distance: 3 miles

I was proud of myself for getting up and running 3 miles this morning even thought it was hot and sunny.  But, Mysti just had to run 6 miles this morning AND get up at 6am.  So now I feel like a slacker.  haha.  The run was fine, I really tried to focus on my breathing and running form and didn't worry about running really fast.  Although I ended up with about the same time.

Michael and I got new running shoes this weekend!  It was nice to talk to the guy and find out what shoes would work better for us.  I knew that I needed a narrow shoe, but there were some narrows that were too narrow and some were great.  I think I overpaid for my shoes there by a little bit, but that's ok because I got some great advice and tried on several shoes.  I do wish I asked if there were any other colors.  I like the color of mine, but online I saw that there were some really neat colors!  (Maybe I'll call them today and ask about a trade...haha)

I didn't run with the new shoes today, but maybe next time.

Mysti's Run 06-27-2011

Workout: 6 Mile Run

The alarm was set at 6:00 am and I actually got up just a few minutes before it went off. (Helps that I went to bed at 8:30 last night) I really wanted to up my miles, but while stretching and watching the news I got a little worried since it was 82 degrees at 6:00am. Thank Goodness, it was very cloudy throughout my run. The run has a whole went very well and I was excited to get back to 6 miles. Mile number four was very weird because my left foot fell asleep and I had to stop to loosen / readjust my shoe laces a couple of times.

I might start looking for a 10K to run in.

I decided to run after dinner.  It was really humid and warm.  I had to stop and walk because my stomach was starting to get upset.  At least I went out and did something.  I'm glad it stopped raining finally!

I did not wake up until 8:15 am (usually I have already completed my run), but I was so thankful that it was still in the low 70's. Even now at 12:30pm it is only 79 degrees outside.

I also was able to work on the lawn and my flowers this morning; I count yard work as working out. ;)

This morning was a short run because Murray and I kept seeing a dog that was acting very strange.  I'm pretty sure it had rabies.  It was walking back and forth in front of our apartments, so I decided that it was best to come inside when he had wondered a little further.

I didn't run at all last week!!  I was out of town for training and staying at a few different places, so I didn't have a normal schedule at all.  Since I have been back Friday it has pretty much rained the whole time.  I was happy for no rain this morning, however I could have done with out the dog!

I walked over and completed my duty of watering the flowers and then began my run. The run went well and I felt good the entire time. I thought about going longer but it started to get hot outside and it is already 80 degrees outside at 8 in the morning.

Another half???

So, I'm contemplating training for another half marathon.  The one I am think about is in Dalton, GA on October 15th.  Here are some pros and cons.

Pros:
1. Being on a plan helps me stay motivated to run.
2. I feel really good when I am running consistently.
3. I think I can run a better time since I now know what the distance feels like.
4. With school starting, running gives me a way to relieve some stress.

Cons
1. I don't know how runner friendly our apartment will be in Chattanooga.
2. School will start in August and I don't know if I will be able to keep up with the training.
3. The weather is still really hot here.
4. I would have to start trying now... or yesterday!

I'm going to think over it for the next few days.  Even if I don't train for a half, I will probably start training for a 10k.

Good Run !!

I was planning to run 4 miles but the weather had different plans for me. As I was eating a small snack and stretching, John was watching the Today Show and the local weather report came on and stated that a storm would being hitting in 30 minutes.

I didn't believe it, but none the less decided to stay close to the house. The weatherman was correct as well as a older gentleman I ran by who pointed to the sky and told me I better get home in the next few minutes.

The beginning of my run it was very sunny and by the end of my run I could not even see my shadow.

Morning run with Murray.  He made it the whole time and didn't slow down too much.  It was 80 degrees, of course, but I didn't have the strong desire to stop and walk like I normally do.  I ran without my ipod, so it was quiet.

Murray has really started racking up the miles lately.  Mostly because he is a big sense of motivation right now.  Mornings when I have to get up and take him out, I figure that I might as well run.

Remember when I said the Hit the Road was tough... here's the elevation map.  You will see that the whole last part is uphill!  Crazy!! (Luckily the beginning was downhill)


Also, I found my last 5k time (October 2009) it was 33:58.  So, this time was much better! 

Now if I could just get the motivation to run in this heat.  I just don't feel like running in the mornings lately and then I get mad at myself because it's too hot.  I have still been doing my arm weights, but I need to get some cardio!

Michael and I ran 3 miles this morning.  It was hot!  Murray only made it about 1 mile before we had to drop him off back at the apartment.  Even though it was hot, I actually felt good for most of the run.  I even kept up with Michael!

I am excited to have started my summer routine. It is 8:40 am and I have already completed my run for the day.

I increased the difficulty level of the boxing and the computer won this morning, but I can feel it in my arms which is all that matters.

My plan was to also do a 5 minute cool down at the end, but my last 20 minute run put me right at my house.

The run tonight went better. It was a little cooler outside and I slowed down my pace.

Hit the Road 5k 6.4.11

Distance: 3.1 miles
Time: 31:10 (unofficial)

One word for this race: HILLY!

The first half was pretty much all downhill and the second half was all uphill... I'm not even exaggerating.  I was doing awesome the first half and really keeping a good pace.  I was trying to be really conscious of pushing myself and not just taking it easy.  However, once we got to mile 2 it was almost all uphill.  I had to walk a couple of times because the hills were so steep that walking was probably faster.  Even though I was walking some, no one passed me (probably because they were walking to).  I had no idea it was going to be so rough!  It was also pretty hot. 

However, even with all of that I am happy with my time.  When I crossed the finish line the big time clock said 31:10.  My ipod said 31:05.  The official times were posted after the race.

Which leads me to my major complaint.  The race was really poorly run.  The lady in charge of the race was rude at the registration table, it started late, they didn't do prizes until an hour and half after I finished the race, and the never posted the results/times. 

I didn't get any pictures, but there honestly wasn't anything exciting to capture.  It was a small race and like I said, not organized.  But, it was a good challenge and I improved my previous 5k time by over 4 minutes (the last time I ran a 5k was October 2009).

I ran 2 miles with Murray this morning.  I didn't think I would run at all because I got up later and it was already hot.  But, we gutted it out.  I didn't even have my ipod with me or anything, because I had just planned on walking.  It definitely was a hot and sweaty 80 degree run.  But, we survived.

So, I have to apologize for being a lazy blogger.  I didn't even finish my Challenge reports.  I ended really well except the running.  I only ran 3 times and I didn't run 6 miles!  But everything else I did well! 

So I only ran 1 time last week.  But I had a lot going on and we were traveling for the weekend, that's my excuse.

Murray and I ran this morning.  We got started around 8:45 and it was already sooo hot.  I don't know what I expected, we are supposed to break a heat record today.  When we got back, weather channel said it was 80 degrees feels like 85!!  yikes!  I think I could have ran further than 2 miles, but Murray couldn't.  He was getting so tired, I was dragging him.  Then he kept acting like he wanted on the grass, so I thought he needed to go to the bathroom.  Turns out, he just wanted to walk on the grass, I think his little feet were too hot.  But I ran! Go me!  Now, if only it won't be a week before I do it again.  (Well, it won't be because we have a 5k Saturday.)  I am going to try to run 1 or 2 more times before Saturday. 


p.s. I have been doing well about keeping up with my arm workouts everyday (well almost every day).

Good 4.4 mile run.  Why the strange distance?  I'm not sure.  It looks like I ran speedy, but it's a little misleading.  We found out during the half marathon that my ipod + nike is a little off in the distance.  So, it thinks you are going faster and covering more distance than you really are.  But, oh well!

Michelle's Challenge: Day 4

I was back on track today.  haha.  The hardest to get in was the water and vegetables/fruits because I didn't have breakfast and had to eat out for lunch.

I ran 3 miles with Murray this afternoon.  (The covers walking a mile with him and running for today.) (2/5)
I drank 40 oz. of water.
I had 6 servings of fruits/vegetables.
I had a devotional.
I did 30 minutes of abs/arms.
I did not run 6 miles.

For vegetables/fruits that were different than other days: for lunch I had a Vietnamese sandwich that had carrots and cucumber on it (only 1 serving together).  For dinner we had baked sweet potato fries (YUM!) and some peas. the other servings were things I have already talked about.

Today was a little harder.  I didn't run today, which means unless I run for the next 4 days in a row, I'm not going to reach that goal.

I did a devotional.

I walked Murray for at least a mile.

I did 30 minutes of arms/abs.
I did not run (1/5).
I did not run 6 miles.


I don't have any solid excuses for not running.  It was raining and cold this morning.  I had to go to a end of the year celebration this afternoon for work, it got over later than I thought and I just didn't feel like running at 9:30pm.  I just don't want this to discourage me from getting in as many runs as possible the rest of the week.

Michelle's Challeng: Day 2

I got started a little late on my challenge because I didn't go to sleep until 4:30am!  I was reading a book and just didn't want to stop reading.  I read the whole book in one day.  It wasn't even that compelling of a book, I think my brain was just excited to do some pleasure reading again.

In spite of only a few hours of sleep.  I did well again today.

I had a devotional.
I walked a mile with Murray (while it was sprinkling outside).
I drank 40 oz of water.  (I drank 20 of those while walking Murray.)
I did not run today (1/5).
I didn't run 6 miles.
I will have had 6 servings of fruits and vegs by the end of the day.
I did 30 minutes of abs/arms.  (They were a little sore today.)

The fruits and vegetables I had today were:
breakfast- strawberries with my greek yogurt (I also had scrambled eggs)
lunch- another left over black bean veggie burger and baby carrots
snack- strawberries after walking Murray
dinner- spinach salad and green beans with shrimp for dinner

Michelle's Run 5.16.11 and Challenge: Day 1

This run I actually pushed myself.  I made myself just keep running hard.  It was a good run.  A funny story though, I had my ipod distance set for a 5k.  At one point I looked down and saw that my pace was 6:09!  I couldn't believe it, I didn't even know it was possible for me to run that fast.  However, I quickly remembered that that was not minute per mile.  It was minutes per Kilometer.  hahaha.

Challenge: Day 1 was good.
I had at least 6 servings of fruits and vegetable.
I ran (so 1/5 for the week).
I am about to finish my 40 ounces of water.
I am going to do a devotional before I go to bed.
I did about 30 minutes of ab/arm work.
I walked a mile with Murray first thing this morning.

The hardest thing today was probably getting in the arm/ab work because Murray kept wanting me to play with him instead of the weights.  Silly dog!

Another Good Run !!

I am so excited to have had two good runs in a row.

Michelle's 7 day challenge

Graduation is over and it's the beginning of summer.  Which means besides job searching, I have a lot of free time.  So, in an effort to start the summer out right I have developed a 7 day challenge.  It's a mix of personal, fitness, and nutritional things that I want to accomplish.


Devotionals everyday.
6 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
40 oz. of water a day. (may not seem like a lot to some, but I am really bad about drinking water.)
Run 5 days.
Run at least one 6 miles run.
30 minutes of abs/arms everyday.
Walk Murray for at least a mile everyday. (Unless it rains.)

I'm hoping that I can keep some of these things up all summer, but I have found that trying to say I'm going to do these things for longer than a week is too daunting for me to stick to sometimes.  So, I'm taking small steps to start out.

p.s. Michael and I registered for a 5k for the the beginning of June!  I have 3 weeks to try to get my time down below 30 minutes.  I honestly don't think it's going to happen this time, but there is always another race.  I added the details to the Races page.

Challenge starts tomorrow Monday, May 16th! I will post everyday to report my progress.

The temperature was nice for a run.  It was cloudy and cool.  Michael led the run which meant it was faster than I normally run on my own, and guess what??  I didn't die!  haha.  I think when we run our 5k in 3 weeks I am going to just try to keep up with him as best I can.

So, in a bit I will post a little 7 day challenge I have made for myself!  We will see how I do!

Mysti's Run 05-14-2011

Great Run !!

The weather was a little cool to start with at 50 degrees (for me, I know it is Michelle's favorite temp), but after about 10 minutes I warmed up and it was just fine.

I think what helped the run was a full 8 hours of sleep, good breakfast of 2 eggs and 2 pieces of toast and the fact that I had not drank a Dr. Pepper, yet. Summer will be here shortly and I will be able to get back to morning runs thanks to work slowing down and refusing to schedule clients before 10:00am !! What teenager wants to get up early during the summer to come to therapy or if truth be known I don't want to talk with teenagers prior to 10:00am. All that to say, morning runs are just around the corner.

This was a really hot and sweaty run (which it also why the distance isn't good).  It was 81 degrees out (feels like 83) and I ran almost an hour earlier than Monday.  I guess I'm going to have to start getting up earlier and running.  I can't believe it's early May and it's already this hot!  How am I going to keep running this summer?

I was looking at some of my first running posts and I was running at 8am... ugh. I have gotten lazier this year since I don't have a job that requires me to get up early consistently.  Now how to motivate myself to get up earlier...  I think the 3 lbs. I've gained back since stopping half marathon training gives me some.

Mysti's Run 5-10-2011

My right arch was hurting a little prior to running today and then of course throughout the run. I have one reason why my arch was hurting today and one theory.

Reason: I walked for 50 minutes with one of my kiddos / clients today in flip flops.
Theory: I have been driving my Dad's Suburban this week and with the seat all the way forward and the pedals raised all the way up I still have to point my toe to reach the gas pedal.

Despite all of the struggles, the run itself went well.

I kept my promise, I ran this morning.  I'm pretty happy with the run too because it was 78 degrees out (feels like 80).  It had been a long time since I had run in temps that high.  It definitely reminded me of my runs last summer.  I had to stop twice for water because I didn't want to get overheated or dehydrated.  It looks like it could rain the rest of the week, so I'm glad I got at least one sunny run in.

Michelle's Run 5.6.11

This run was pretty bad, but honestly I don't know what I expected after not running for almost 2 weeks!  It's pathetic.  I ran the first 1.5 miles and then got really dizzy so I had to walk on and off.  I ran the last .5 miles pretty strong, so I decided to stop and end on a fairly good note.  I noticed that I had no willpower at all.  As soon as I felt a little dizzy or tired, I just stopped.  I hope this doesn't continue!

I need to find another race to run it's obviously a good motivator for me.  Mysti, I don't know how you run without a race to look forward to.  I admire that motivation.

We are going to Kentucky tomorrow and won't be back until Sunday afternoon.  So, I may not run until Monday... but it will be Monday at the latest.  No more 2 week breaks for this girl!

I had some trouble breathing which was to be expected since for the last 10 days I have had trouble breathing in general, even just sitting down. Stupid Cold / Allergies !! Anywho, I was very excited to get a chance to run.

I have been trying to eat a little healthier. Meals this week have included: Chicken Walnut Strawberry Salad, Pineapple Grilled Chicken and a Subway Flatbread Veggie Sandwich. My main goal is to simply add in more fruits and veggies and in general be more intentional.

This run was a struggle.  It was pretty warm and no breeze.  I had to stop and walk for 30 seconds or so once.  It's pretty frustrating knowing that 2 weeks ago today I ran 13 miles!  I haven't even ran a total of 13 miles since the half marathon.  Maybe I'm experiencing some sort of post-race slump.  It's not that my body can't run more... it's that my mind is just not letting me.  Although I think that the fact that it's the end of the semester also has something to do with it.  My mind is just tired right now!

Michelle's workout 4.18.11

Workout: Spinning Class, 45 minutes

Last night I went to a spinning class on campus.  I had gone once last semester and wanted to try it out again.  I really enjoyed it.  It wasn't as hard this time as last time either, I don't now if it was an easier instructor or because I'm in better shape.  I definitely worked up a sweat though... it was really hot in that room and the class was packed! 

Hopefully I can go again next week.  It's a nice change of pace.  Also, it's not near as mentally challenging because the class is fun and you are constantly doing different things.

Mysti's Run 04-17-2011

I have been getting bored with running in the same two neighborhoods that are easily accessible, and have been trying to figure out how to connect to other neighborhoods without running on Bellview Road. Bellview is a small two lane road,no shoulders and tons of traffic. Numerous people run and bike on the road despite the fact that two cars cannot meet side by side if there is a runner or biker on the road. I think it is annoying and dangerous. Anyway, I will get off my soap-box.

Today I ran a new path which involved diagonally crossing Bellview. It opened up three large neighborhoods all connected by sidewalks !! I am technically on Bellview for about 20 feet, but a short enough distance that I can wait till traffic clears to cross and nobody has to stop for me or hit me !!

We had a good (and fast for us) 4 mile run this afternoon.  It was warm out, but we ran in the shade some.  I definitely pushed myself the whole time (with the help of Michael as my pacer).  My legs felt great too!

Run for God Half Marathon

Distance: 13.1
Time: 2:24:20

We finished the race!  I was slightly disappointed with my time, it was a 11:01 pace.  But, I know I started out really conservatively at the beginning of the race.  (Since it was the first time I've ran that far and I didn't know what to expect.) I felt really good the whole time and was able to pick up the pace at the end.  I really enjoyed the race.  I didn't feel like I would die or that I could never do it again.  My legs and knees are a little sore, but nothing too bad.

I had 3/4 of a powerbar before the run and some powerade.  During the run I took one or two cups of water at each water station (about every 2 miles).  I also had a lemon GU gel about half way through the race. 

I started out going pretty slow and near the end of the group, but as more and more people started walking and slowing down, I passed them.  Michael finished a minute ahead of me.  I could see him during the whole race, I almost caught up to him at the end... but he got a kick at the end.  haha.

After the race we got our medals, water, and some food.

Some specifics about the race... it was really small (this was the first year for the race).  There were less than 200 runners in the half.  The course was good, it wasn't flat but the hills weren't steep at all (especially compared to what we normal run).  The temperature was pretty much perfect.  It got a bit warm toward the end, but there was a little breeze that cooled it off a bit. The outfit I wore was not the cutest, but it was comfortable and I had zero clothing issues or problems with it rubbing. 

So all in all, it was a great experience for both of us!  I can definitely see myself running a half marathon again.  However, not for a while!  haha.  My feet need to heal some... I have about 6 blisters currently.  Yuck!

Running Food and Some Ugly Sunglasses

I thought I would share a few randoms today.  Since Michael and I have been running such long distances, we have had to find different ways to get energy (calories) during the run.  We have tried chews, gels, energy bars, etc. Here's a picture of what our running food collect looks like.

I don't really like the consistency of the gels, but it's an easy way to eat something while running.  I'm trying out a new flavor for the race (I hope it doesn't make me gag.)  My favorite are the strawberry chomps! 

Saturday I will also be rocking my running sunglasses.  I picked these up for $5 at Walmart.  They are technically men's and are too big.  I think they are SUPER ugly, but Michael says they look fine.  I'm just happy that they don't move up and down while I run and I don't have to squint anymore.

 So I will wear them for the race, but I may take them off when I run by the race cameras.  hahhaa.

Overall, the run went well. I could tell that I had drank a Dr. Pepper not too long before I ran, felt a little weighted down.

I have been wanting a bright / colorful pair of Nike running short since last summer and just could never bring myself to pay $36.00 - $42.00 for a pair of shorts. However, today at Dillard's I found some for $28.00. I know it is not a huge difference, but paying in the 20's made it easier for some reason. It also helped that the shorts had my three favorite colors. I'm glad I waited; I love my new shorts !!

Mysti's 04-02-2011

It has been crazy busy over the last two weeks with Joey's birthday / lots of family in town, vacation, Grandma Mable passing away / making a trip back home and a visit from my parents and grandfather. Thankfully, there is nothing on the agenda until Easter weekend. With the business over and warm weather, I fully plan on developing a running plan / schedule with a new goal.

I am thinking about a 10K or an 8 mile goal....

We decided to run on one of the Knoxville Greenways today.  Yay for not running in circles.  It was a good run, but near the end I was just getting really hot.  Also, my toes have been blistering lately.  I don't know what the deal is with that.  I even put some band-aids on, but then I just got new blisters.  Ugh! 

This was the last long run before the half marathon next Saturday.  I may run one shorter run this week, we will see. I didn't run at all this past week which is awful, but it rained almost everyday and the days it didn't rain I was really busy. 

While the 10 mile run went well, I'm a little nervous about adding another 3.1 miles onto that next weekend.  I was sooo ready to be finished after mile 8.  In the half marathon, when I get to mile 8 I will still have 5 miles left to go!  I'm just going to have to really watch my pacing and not start out too fast.  It also won't be as hot since the half marathon is in the morning.

We ran 6 miles under 60 minutes (just barely, but still)!  I was feeling great on the run, but I'm really glad we didn't run 12 miles because I don't think I would have been up for that with the weather being blah. I'm just so glad that I'm finally getting some speed.

We were supposed to run 12 miles today, but the weather is totally yuck.  So I may run a few miles later and try to get in a long run this week sometime.

I ran 12 miles!  Only one more long run until the half marathon.  I felt fine for the first 10 miles, but the last 2 were hard.  Then I came back and felt soo sick.  I couldn't even finish making dinner because I had to sit down.  I don't know if it was because I needed to eat something or what.  I'm hoping I start to feel better soon though!

A quick little treadmill run.  I ran at 9pm, by far the latest I have ran in a long time!  It was of course hot in the room and it was apparently high school Death Metal hour.  These 6 high school boys were up there listening to their stereo super loud.  I couldn't take more than 2.5 miles of that.  The one good thing about running in a warm room is you feel like you accomplished more than just 2.5 miles of running.  haha.  Sweat is tricky.

Very excited about my run today and this weeks running in general. I feel like I am back on track; however, with Joey's birthday party this weekend, a house full of family and spring break ahead I'm sure next week will not look as good.

I have been thinking about what I want do accomplish through the Spring/Summer, but nothing has came to mind yet. Ideas?

A good run!  It's amazing how much more motivated you are to run when the alternative is writing papers!  I just suddenly have all the motivation in the world to run. 

The weather was also nice.  I am happy about my pace as well.  I ran 7 miles at a faster pace then I ran the 10k back in September.  (Not much, but a little none the less.)

I said I was going to have a redemption run, and that is just what I did.  Check out that pace!  Today's run was a thousand times better than yesterday.  The temperature was perfect and I felt good.  I didn't even listen to my music for the first 8 miles.  I only stopped for water twice (after miles 4 and 8).  After the 8 mile stop I could really feel it in my legs, the last 3 miles were hard.  But I still had a good time.  I would be ecstatic if I ran this well for the Half Marathon.  I only have 2 more long runs left and then a week and a half of tapering and resting, before the race!  eek!

p.s. I signed Michael up for the Half Marathon last night. I'm happy that he is running it and training with me... but I was sort of looking forward to having a cheerleader to cheer me on during the race.  I know some people running the 5k, maybe they will see me and cheer.

Michelle's Run 3.13.11

This run was a failure!  I was supposed to run 11 miles and only made it to 3.5.  I don't know what the deal is.  I had absolutely no energy to run.  All I wanted to do was sit down and cry.  Usually when my run starts bad I remind myself of how great I will feel after I complete the run, but that wasn't working today.  I was also really having a hard time being the pacer for Michael...it was like i had no mental energy either. (He didn't have my problem and ran 10 miles.)

Part of it may have been that I had very little carbs today, so my body was needing more calories, but I don't think that was the whole problem.  I think it was a lot of little things rolled into one.

This week I only ran 6 miles!  That is TERRIBLE!  How am I going to be able to run a half marathon in 3 weeks if I only run 6 miles in a whole week??  I just don't feel super excited about running right now. I also do worse with running when I have a less going on.  Because I will just keep putting it off all day until it's too late or I've lost the motivation.  This week HAS to be different. 

I am going to try for an 11 mile redemption run tomorrow, even if it means running in the rain.  Then I am going to run 6 miles on Wednesday, 4 miles Friday, and 12 miles next Sunday.  That's my plan... I know I have the time to do it since next week is Spring Break... I just need to make myself put on my shoes and run. 

Maybe I should blame this on Mysti since she visited last week and now I am out of my running groove. hahhaa.

Mysti's Run 03-11-2011

I almost didn't blog about my big 1 mile run, but I am determined to run everyday this weekend. It has been a crazy busy and simply crazy week at work (oh, the mental health field) and I excepted to be home my 4:00pm today, but I didn't make it until about 5:00pm and was still waiting on a phone call from a family. So, finally about 5:30 I was finished.
I started dinner which needed to bake for about 20 minutes and I decided that it was going to be dark by the time we finished dinner so I just went for it while dinner was baking.

Thank goodness for Daylight Savings and more daylight time after work.

11 miles!!  I can't believe I did it.  And look at that pace.  I am super proud of myself.  I felt good for the entire run except for the last mile which was a real struggle.  I also can't believe that I ran for almost 2 hours.  I only stopped for water twice (the second stop I also had half of an energy bar).  Now I have to go take the fastest shower ever and try to make the meeting that I am supposed to be at in an hour.  I'm also sure that walking will be a challenge for the rest of the day!

I think my legs were getting tired of my slower longer runs.  This was the second run in a row where I start wondering around mile 3 why I am so tired and look at my ipod to see that I wasn't going my typical 10:35ish pace.  So once again I told myself to put in a fast last mile.  And once again my ipod told me I had a new personal best mile.  (I need to plug it into the computer and see what these "personal best miles" are).  Today's 4 mile run was almost a minute faster than Mondays.  Crazy! 

I am going to try to get a long run in tomorrow morning because I'm sure Mysti does not want to come and visit and sit in my living room while I run 11 miles.  Plus, I think it's going to rain on and off.  Boo!  However, I have to leave my house around 11:30am tomorrow, so getting an 11 mile run, shower, getting ready, breakfast, etc all before then might be a challenge.

I'm glad I got out and ran this morning.  Since last week's terrible treadmill run I have really had a mental block on running.  I just haven't wanted to get out there.  It also didn't help that this weekend we were in Virginia for a wedding so there was a lot of dancing, drinking, late nights and rich foods! It's also going to rain most of the day today.

The first 2.5 miles of the run were a struggle.  I stopped to get a drink of water and was deciding how much further to run when I looked at my ipod screen and noticed that I was actually making better time than I thought.  So I made a deal with myself, I could run just 4 miles instead of 5 as long as I ran fast and pushed myself.  So that's what I did.  At the end of the run a little voice came on my ipod that said "Congratulation that was your fastest mile!"

My run today was not the best but not the worst either. I just felt slow. It seemed like I had 5lbs weights on my legs. The weather was nice and that is always good.

This morning I took a huge chuck out of my pinky toe and was afraid it was going to hinder my run today since it took about 30 minutes to stop the bleeding. Sad and Funny...All I did was walk out of the bathroom and caught the baseboard.

I took it easy throughout this run, because it has been a long time since I have ran 4 miles. So, about every half mile I stopped and walked for about 30 seconds.

I took it easy tonight in hopes to run again tomorrow. (Tomorrow 61 and Sunny !!) I am going to find my old running schedules and try to put something together tonight because I have hopes that there will be more nice days than snowy cold day from this week forward. Therefore, hopefully the times of feeling like a fare weather runner will be gone. Oh, I cannot wait to Spring.

This was terrible.  I was trying to squeeze in a 3 mile run between the class I teach and the class I take.  However, I didn't leave enough time between lunch and running.  I ran about a mile and half and thought I was going to throw up!  Then I walked for a while and tried to run some more on and off.  Everytime I started running I felt awful.  So I just had to walk the rest of the time.  I also have to walk a half mile to the fitness center and a half mile back.  (that's the 2nd mile of walking).

My first 10 mile run!  I have to say I'm pretty proud of myself.  Although, for some reason 10 seemed a lot longer than 9.  I was so tired the last mile I didn't know if my legs would keep moving.  I definitely couldn't have run 3.1 more to make it a half.  I'm feeling a little sore, but hopefully I won't be tomorrow.  Now if I can just get some good runs in this week.  (Next weekend will not be a 10 mile run because we are going to be out of town and it's the start of a lighter running week.)

I also need some new music to download.  Any suggestions?

I updated my measurements page.  I lost a little in my waist and hips.  My calves just keep getting bigger though!  Ugh!

This was a terrible, terrible run.  I was pretty anxious to start running this afternoon and was wanting to get in about 5 miles.  However, once I started I quickly realized that wasn't going to happen.  I don't know if it was the cold, the weather (it was warm and humid), or a mental block.  But, no matter what the reason I couldn't run more than 2.5 miles.  Hopefully tomorrow or Sunday will be better!

Mysti's Run 02-16-2011

It was drizzling outside, but I was not going to pass up 55 degree weather and no snow on the ground. All the snow is finally gone !!

The run itself was good and bad. My legs felt fine throughout the run - My breathing not so much towards the end. I could tell it had been awhile since I had ran 3 miles. My back began to ache a little at the end as well, but hopefully I will figure something out this afternoon at the chiropractor.

I have also decided that I am a fair weather runner and am trying to determine if that bothers me or not...Yes and No. I don't like doing anything less than 100% but then again I don't like to run when it is cold outside. It's hard for me to get motivated to run if the temperature is below 50 degrees.

I accidentally reset my ipod nike thing after mile 3, so I don't know my total time and pace.  But I know that the last 2 miles were slow.  But I'm fine with that because until I hit mile 6 I didn't know if I could run further than 7 miles today.  I just wasn't feeling the best.  But I stuck it out and did all 9.  Some of the motivation was the $60 registration fee I paid today for the half marathon!  Yes, I finally bit the bullet and registered to run in the Run for God Half Marathon on April 9th.  So in about 7 weeks I will be running my first (and maybe only, ha!) half marathon.

While I'm proud of my longer runs the last couple of weeks, I really need to step up my shorter runs.  I only ran one other time this week.  This past week was really busy, but I still need to get better about sticking to those runs.

It felt good to get on the elliptical and get a good (inside) workout in. I watched American Idol while I was on the elliptical which helped pass the time.

I was hoping to be able to run outside this weekend since the weather forcast is showing that it will be in the 50s; however, with the snow from last week and today I think the snow total is around 20 inches so I have a feeling it will still be dangerous to run outside. We shall see...

Nice run on the treadmill.  I didn't want to push  myself since my calves were a little sore from Sunday's run.  This week on the treadmill on campus was easier.  (Perhaps it was because I wore shorts!)  I decided to run today between the class I teach and the class I take (confusing I know) since I didn't run yesterday and I won't be able to run Thursday or Friday.  Usually when I have time in between I just go to my office and read.... which is a good use of time but it makes me sleepy.  Right now I feel a lot more awake than I usually feel before my night class.

I ran 9 miles. I can't even believe it!  Michael ran with me for the first 6.2 (a 10k) and then I ran the last 2.8 solo.  It really wasn't bad.  The weather was perfect: 40's and sunny.  I only stopped 2 times.  I stopped after the first 3 miles to get a quick drink and after the 6.2 mile point to get a drink and eat a piece of an energy bar.  My legs are already sore, so tomorrow may be comical.  I was also pretty happy with my pace for my first 9 mile run.

changing my mind again and again...

So I think I have changed my mind about which half marathon I'm going to do. 

Just last week I was looking to see if any had been added and I found the Run for God Half Marathon.  It's going to be April 9th.  The best part is that it's a good price and it's located only a few miles from Michael's parents, so we won't have to pay for a hotel room.  The possible downfall is that this is the first year for the race, so it's going to be small, probably a little unorganized, and there won't be many people to cheer you on. 



However, the Run for God program is really neat and the proceeds go to NW Georgia FCA groups.  Run for God is a bible study/5k training program.  The church we went to in Dalton has a group and some of the teachers I taught with in Chattanooga are also in groups.  I think that is a great way to get people active and growing closer to God at the same time.  Plus they do a lot of group runs, so talk about motivation!  There website is runforgod.com

I haven't signed up yet, but I plan to this week (unless I change my mind again.)

I ran on the treadmills on campus today.  Michael needed the car today and wouldn't be able to bring me to class, so he had to drop me off early.  So, I had my first run at UT's fitness center.  I was planning on running for 5 miles, but the machines said you could only be on it for 30 minutes.  So, I decided to try a faster 3 miles.  Well I did pretty well until half way through and I had to slow down.  It was so hot and there was no air circulation.  (I really have a thing about running warm gyms aparently.)  After my ok run, I did some of the arm machines and some ab exercises.  I really need to get these arms in shape and running isn't doing it! 

Since I am stuck on campus and have to sit in a classroom later, I figured that I should shower.  The showers weren't bad and it was a pretty quick process.

I didn't run the 8 miles I had planned, but it was a pretty good run.  I was Michael's "pacer" for the run.  He ran behind me because he wanted to run a longer distance and thought that he would run too fast if he ran in front of me.  It's mentally taxing to have someone run right behind you for 5 miles.  I kept worrying if I was running too fast or too slow.  It was sooo warm out.  Definitely Spring weather!  (Although I am used to be 40 degree runs, so 70 degrees felt almost hot.)

Although the weather was nice today, I did not have the motivation to run.  I actually didn't have motivation to do anything today.  But I decided to take Murray out and we ended up walking about a mile and half around the apartment complex.  Didn't burn as many calories as a 4 mile run, but at least I did something I guess.  Murray was happy too! 

Now I am off to burn a couple more calories looking at cars...

This was a very strange run for me.  I ran the first 1.3 miles (one long loop) and then decided to take Murray with me for the rest of the run.  I stopped my nike +ipod when I got Murray and then started it again when we started our run ( forgot how fast he runs), but then he had some bathroom issues.  So I had to stop again and let him work out his issues.  Finally we were able to get into a rhythm (except the 2 times when he saw another dog).  I didn't really feel good during the run and I figured it was because of all of the stopping and going.  I hadn't been looking at my time as all during the run, but I thought it would be so bad because of all of the stopping, slowing down, etc.  So, when my ipod told me we had gotten to 4 miles I was so surprised to look and see 40 minutes and 40 seconds.  That's the fastest I've ran in a while.  I'm definitely tired and out of breath (something I don't normally get on a run). 

So I found out (we reminded of) today that Murray can help me pick up my pace, but he comes with his own challenges as well!  :)

Sometimes I get so discouraged at my slow pace.  But it's not that I can't run fast it's that I don't really try to run fast.  I'm so worried that I will go to fast in the beginning and not be able to run the whole distance.  While, that's a good strategy for long runs, I need to push myself a little more on shorter ones.

Michelle's January Measurements

I finally updated my measurements for January.  I should have measured last week, but I kept forgetting.  I took the measurements Monday instead.  I really didn't think I would see any changes because this past month included 2 weeks of not much running and a lot of eating. But I was surprised to see my body had changed some.  I didn't really lose any lbs on the scale, but I am perfectly fine with that.  So, we will see what next month's measurements look like.

Wow! 8 miles!  The weather was perfect!  It was in the 50's for most of my run.  The first 2 miles my feet felt like the lead.  The last two I don't know if you could really call what I was doing running... it was probably more like slow jogging..haha.  But, I did it!  I know tomorrow I will be sore.  But hopefully this next weekend when I run 8 again it will be easier.  There is a big difference between 6 miles and 8 miles!  I guess I "felt" good the whole time, but by the end my legs were just tired.

Treadmill run.  The first mile and a half went by quickly, but the last 2.5 were sooo slow.  I didn't know if I would ever make it!  haha.  I also think I need to start bringing a fan up there with me.  It's not as hot as this summer when the air conditioner was out, but it still gets pretty warm after the first mile.  At least I wore shorts today and not pants, that helped.

It was nice to get a morning run in.  I don't remember the last time I ran in the morning.  The class I help teach is usually from 9-4 on Tuesdays but today we aren't starting until noon, so I had some morning time.

I ran 7 miles!!!  This is the furthest I have ran, EVER.  Although the sidewalks were still icy and snow in spots(the areas that don't see the sun), I knew I needed to get this 7 mile run out of the way today if I was going to keep my half marathon hopes alive.  I just ran slowly where it was slick.  It made the run slow, but it was better than falling. 

I felt really good too.  Mile 2 and 3 were the worst.  During those miles I wasn't sure how far I would make it.  But then once I got past mile 3 I felt really good for the rest of the run!

I was a little slower than normal today due to the lack of consistent running lately, but it felt good to run and I did not have to stop to walk or stretch.

My fear has been that since I have slacked off so much I would have to starting training all over again. It is very nice to know that when nice weather returns I will easily get right back to where I was !!

Another treadmill run (running outside right now would definitely end in a twisted ankle or broken tailbone) that really was not fun.  It was soooo hot in the workout room.  I wanted to run 5 miles, but 4 was all I could take.  At the end I was drenched in sweat and I wasn't even running that fast.  I had worn capris, but I think I need to remember to wear shorts from now on. 

I wasn't really sore from yesterday's workout, but I am really sore now.  Since I don't usually get sore after a 4 mile run I'm guessing it's from the combination of yesterday and today.

I had all intentions of running, but when I got to the workout room all of the treadmills were being used.  (I think being snowed in has made people a little stir crazy...and those New Years Resolutions).  So, I decided to switch it up a bit and also get in one of my abs/arms workouts for the week.  I was sweating (a little) and my heart rate was up, but I didn't feel the satisfaction that I feel from a run.  I'm curious to see if I will be sore tomorrow.

2011 Running/Fitness Goals

So, since it's the new year I thought it would be a good time to set some running/fitness goals for the year.  However, instead of the whole year... I thought maybe just the next 6 months.  I think 6 months will be better because I have no idea what job I will be doing or anything after June, that could effect my workouts.  I also may need/want a break from running and want to start trying something different... who knows.  So, here are my goals for the first 6 months of 2011:

-run a 5k in less than 30 minutes
-run a 10k in less than 60 minutes
-run a half marathon
-start doing ab/arm exercises at least 2 times a week
-try out some of the different fitness classes at UT for a change of pace from running and an escape from the cold

Michelle's Run 1.6.11

Time: 54 minutes or so... it was slow, so I didn't care to remember it.

Outside run.  The run didn't really feel hard, but I just couldn't seem to move very fast.  I was supposed to run yesterday, but it was snowing.  Today it was still cold, but the sun was out.  After this run, I can't imagine running 7 miles this weekend.  I think I can, I think I can...


Oh, I meant to post this picture the other day.  It's me in my new running tights.  They are soo warm.  They are from Target.  I feel a little self conscious in them, so I won't be wearing them to the grocery store anytime soon, but they are great for winter running.  Plus, they were just $20.  My mom bought me a pair of pants with the same material from Target, but they have a little flare at the bottom.  I wore those today.  They are warm, but not as warm as the tights.  The pink shirt is the same one I got Mysti for Christmas, but in a different color.  It is from Wal-Mart.  Maybe I should invest in a more discreet color of ear-warmers... the bright blue sure does stand out!

p.s. how funny does Murray look in this picture.  It looks like he has no head and no tail. haha.

Michelle's Run 1.3.11

Running Stats:
Distance: 4 miles
Time: 42:15
Pace: 10:33

First run of 2011!  I love my Nike + ipod that I got for Christmas.  It gives me all of the stats, during and after the run. It tells me out loud every mile.  Now I can run around my apartment complex and know exactly how far I am running.  It was also nice to see a decent pace as well.  Hoping to get closer to 10 minute miles consistently by the half marathon.

This run was a little difficult.  But that is to be expected since I hadn't run in over a week and I had been eatting a much of cookies, snacks, etc. It will get easier.  (Hopefully by this weekend when I am supposed to run 7 miles!)

So here's to a great year of running!
