Mysti's Workouts - Week Nov 16th

Skipped my Monday run, again.
It had snowed / mix rain most all day Sunday and I was afraid at 6am I would fall or it was a good excuse :-(
This morning was good - 7 miles at 55 degrees and only a few rain drops.

John was out of town last week and it was in the 20s each day so I missed Wed and Fri. It was just too cold to get Samuel in jogging stroller even with weather guard.

My Mon and Sat runs were good but nothing special.

Michelle's Run 11.12.14

4 mile run with the jogger

This was one of those days that got colder as the day went on.  I felt good during the run and wanted to go longer, but Heath's little hands got cold.  Some of that was one him... he refused to let me put up the weather shield which would have helped with the cold.  Then I tried to show him how putting his hands under his blanket would help, but he didn't want to do that either.  :)  But 4 miles isn't bad.  I just need to get more runs in!  We're going to Kentucky this weekend to see my brother and sister-in-law.  I'm hoping to get a run in there.  We will see....

Also, my goal for next week is to do one morning run before Michael goes to work.  Just one, to try it out.  Maybe I'll like it!

Another goal is to get Heath some mittens!  ha!

Michelle's workouts 11.5-11.9

Nov 5- run/walk 30 minutes
Nov 6- 30 minute walk
Nov 7- Jillian Michael's workout
Nov 8- We did the Heart Walk as a family (it was a 2.5 mile downtown walk)
Nov 9- 40 minute run (this was supposed to be a 5.5 mile run, but a house in our neighborhood that I was curious about was having an open house, so I stopped mid-run to check it out.  Then I ran more, but I had to stop before the 5.5 miles because a little person in our house demands to eat dinner by 6, so I had to start cooking.)  It was still a good run though!

None of these were super impressive, but I did stuff.  Also, I hadn't done any weights in a long time and was sore 2 days later from my JM workout.  I need to work more of those in!

Mysti's Week of November 2nd



I was so excited I found a pair of running tights at TJ Maxx for $16.99, but my legs hurt so bad in the run today - didn't even make it to our planned 8 miles.
Last time I bought capris I got size medium and they fell down while running. This time I went with a small and seriously think the pants made my legs hurt. I'm going to try and stretch them out some and try again. Maybe just bad run.
Overall, happy with running this week!

I had a good run this morning and when I heard my pace at 7 miles was still under 10 I decided to try for 10 miles under 10 minutes. Apparently, I gave me a boost in motivation cause I came in at 9:47 pace.

This was the best I felt on a run in a long time.  I could have kept going!  The weather was perfect for a run and I was jogger free!  I ran in parts of our area I hadn't run in since I was pregnant or before that even.  It was much needed.

Poor Michael, he was stuck at home with a screaming Heath that only wanted Mommy to come back.

Heath made it 4.5 miles without fussing too bad. I even tried to finish strong and pick up he pace at the end.

I didn't run much last week because work and life were busy, this weeks also going to be busy, but hopefully better.

Ran after dinner and it was not a good idea. The food had not settled enough.

Wednesday: 4 mile run with jogger

4 mile run! Ran at a flat 2 mile course, so we did two laps. Heath did pretty well. No major meltdowns.

30 minute run

Used a break in the rain to run around the neighborhood with Heath. Since he's not a fan if running past our house several times, I took the big loop around the neighborhood which includes a steep hill.  I walked that part, but it was still tough to push the stroller! He didn't pretty well since we didn't go by the house. I told him his job was to see what he could see on our run. Luckily our neighborhood is full of trees, trucks, birds, etc and we're in the flight path of the airport.

Michelle's Run 10.1.14

30 minute solo run in the evening

Went on a solo run after dinner.  Although, my stomach didn't seem happy about it and hasn't been great since (but, that probably means it was something else... not just the running). 

I have ran more in the last few weeks, but I forgot to blog them... probably 5 or so...

Heath has been challenging in the stroller.  When we run in the nieghborhood he throws a fit every time we pass by the house because he wants down.  Then he starts throwing things.  So, I'm either going to have to start going somewhere else with him to run or not running with him.  I know it's nice to run solo, but then I have to run first thing in the morning and Michael has to get up earlier so that he can watch him, or I have to run after dinner right before it gets dark. Maybe we'll try going somewhere to run...

I have been trying to get back into a running routine for over a year now and it's not working for me.  I need some ideas about what to do.  Sign up for a race? Put a calendar of runs on the fridge? Give myself some rewards?

Mysti's Workouts - Aug 18, 19 & 20

Tue - 20 minutes arms, 10 minutes elliptical
Wed - 20 minutes arms, stretching 

We are getting back into our routin after traveling off / on for 5 weeks and enjoying extra time with Joey.
Activity center - Samuel has cried for a few minutes at drop off (not too bad for him) but then stands by the teacher the entire time. :(
Next week centers closed, so it might take a little longer to adjust back.
I'm sad I've made him backtrack, he was walking in dropping my hand and saying bye bye mommy.

I haven't ran a full 30 minutes in a while. It was warm, but not too bad. Heath fell asleep right away on the run, so it was less stressful then when he's fussing and crying. I just wish he would sleep while I was sleeping as well. We were up at 6 this morning! I know that's not crazy early for everyone, but he didn't go to bed until 9:30.

We've been on vacation for a week = Swimming, Kayaking, Skiing, Tubing.

I planned to run more while at the lake, but late nights, large breakfast meals, dirt road and no cell service for Map My Run and iHeart Radio caused a large lack of motivation.

We did A LOT of walking in NYC. One day Erika's fit bit said we walked 10 miles! Then Monday I did a flying trapeze class! So fun. My arms and body were sooo sore the next day.

Mysti's Workouts - Week of July 6, 2014

Joey's with us for his 5 week summer time!! Getting to gym will be more limited. Didn't go last week. I'm totally ok to miss since we have more time with Joey, but don't want Samuel to get out of routine. Childcare goes up to 9 year olds, but Joey looks more like an 11 year old and he would just be so bored. I think I will go  some to drop off Samuel and then play basketball with Joey. That works out arms, right!? :)
Saturday was a difficult run - hot and hilly. 
I ran out of water during mile 7. A 4 bottle belt might be in order. Finished the 9 miles and felt pretty good about run despite conditions. Pace was 10.42 vs more normal 10.15, but also been building miles again over last month.

Ran 30 minutes as a family to start our July 4th holiday. Michael pushed Heath for the first half and I got the second. We went to the river park area and let Heath get out and play at the park at the end. Since he isn't walking, he can't do a lot at the park, but he enjoyed the slides.

Heath and I ran downtown this morning. We ran across two bridges and through the park. It was great for a Saturday run. Heath enjoyed watching the people and cars. It was a long time for him to be in the stroller and he didn't fuss once.

Heath and I tried something new today.  We drove to the riverpark and ran there.  It's about a 10 minute drive and it was great!  The running path was pretty flat and it took you by the river, some parks, over bridges, etc... and that was just the part we ran today!  I really need to get more adventurous with my running.  I always just run by my house and it gets boring.  Heath also likes to look at different things.  I just need to go earlier.  Today it got a little hot by the end!

Today I learned how much of a difference a flat course makes. I was just hoping to get around 33 minutes. The course was really flat and easy to run. Michael finished around 28 minutes! My mom watched Heath (they enjoyed watching everyone run) so we were jogger-less.

John typically get up with Sam in the mornings around 6am. I run MWFSat and sleep in till 645 on TT; however, I'm so less productive and feel sleepy all morning. This morning I got up and walked. I cannot run everyday do in fun to try just getting up and taking a short walk to help start the day. We shall see.

My run today was just not good. I wasn't feeling it and my shirt was really annoying me. It's hard to push a stroller and adjust your shirt every 30 seconds! This afternoon we met a friend and her daughter at the park and walked for 45 minutes before letting the kids swing. So even though my run stunk, I was active today and we enjoyed plenty of nice weather!

Heath and I were about to go on our run and this happened.
So we has to wait until the afternoon. It was really humid,but not too hot. 

I am also doing an ab challenge. 30 days of ab work. I just found a plan on pinterest. I wasn't worried about what the exact plan was, I just need to do something. I like how I look except for my stomach. I hate that I still look 5 months pregnant. And it's not fat, it's just that I have no muscles anymore. So I'm hoping by actually doing some exercises with them, they will tighten up a bit.

I got new running shoes for Mothers Day! They are so bright! It was the only color in my size, but they are really comfortable, so color doesn't matter as much.

THIRTY minutes!  I don't think I have ever ran that long with the jogger.  I had planned on 25, but then heath fell asleep and I felt great, so I went for it.  It was a nice cool weather morning run.  So different from my last run, where 20 minutes seemed nearly impossible.  That's the great thing about running, even if you have a bad run, the next one could be a great one!

Michael and I have started a Run for God small group. I'm trying to get back into it. It's hard because I am so out of the habit. The running isn't hard, it's getting into a routine again.

Mysti's Workout - March 22, 2014

I had planned to meet Courtney at 6:30 and run 8 miles, but after being awake with both Samuel and John from 4:30-6:00 that did not happen. Samuel and I slept from 6:00-7:00, ate breakfast and joined Courtney for the end of her 12 miles. 

Great run with jogging stroller! I feel like it was similar to running 8 miles solo.

I wasn't sure if I would get a run in today, but after falling off the wagon at Dunkin Donuts this morning I was a little more motivated. Sam was napping and John got up to eat lunch so I ran with the opportunity. Hehehe :)

Mysti's Workout - March 19, 2014

I decided to try out the speed interval training idea and used the 5k Runner app to prompt the intervals. Below is a picture  - during walking parts we (with Courtney) ran normal pace and during running parts we sprinted. 
It went great! I was definantly glad when the intervals were over! It was nice to change it up and hopefully burn a few extra calories. I read somewhere at sometime that speed training helped target belly fat. Rather it does or doesn't it gave me extra motivation.


Typical pace at 3 miles / weekdays = 10:30 pace. 
Pace Improved :)


PS - Plan to go to gym and focus on arms in about an hour :)

Monday = 25 minute treadmill

Eating = Doing fairly well. Salads for lunch, more fruits for snacks, adding greens to dinner and limiting sweets. Nothing crazy and not everyday, but more days than not.

Morning run for the first time since daylight savings. It was still very dark at 6:20am.
Another random note, news story last night was of a runner getting hit on the arm by a blow dart. It was even on same street I run on just a mile or two more north.

Sam and I made a trip to Aunt Cathy's and Grandparents' Farm last week - I decided I would leave the running shoes and jogging stroller behind. Enjoyed my break from reality while indulging in homemade fried pork chops and mashed potatoes.

Very excited about progress today. My knee hurt about 3 different times and could feel it was tight throughout run but never to the point I felt any damage or bad pain. 


Eating: Much better for me
Lunches- 3 salads, 1 tuna w dill pickles and wheat crackers and peanut butter sandwich. Only 1 Donut :)

Mysti's Workout - February 26, 2014

Randomness: Run about 10 minutes and intervals with Dana for about 25 minutes on track and then 5 minute run on treadmill. (Yay, Dana's trying to start running)

My left knee started hurting on Monday morning. Trying to slow down and not push it, but work thought it at same time. (Read somewhere at sometime that you wanted to back off training but not stop)

Continuing my randomness...Trying to eat better?!?
I can stick with a running schedule, but I never seem to stick with eating well past about the 3 week mark. So maybe if I add it to our blogging, I will do better. 

Ideas...
* Salads for lunch at least 4 times per week
* Veggie added to each dinner and watch portions
* Limit unhealthy snacking 
* Sweets are my weakness. Get mini or fun size candy bars and limit to one after lunch and dinner. (Compared to: I ate 4 Dunkin Donuts last week in a 24 hour period)

Took a half day because Heath could not go to daycare.  It was nice out, so we went for a little jog.  Even though I dressed him warmly and put up the weathershield, it was still probably not my finest mommy moment.  Once he started crying, I decided to stop just in case he wasn't feeling well.

This run hurt starting at mile 7, but it was such a nice day and I didn't get a long run last weekend that I kept pushing.
I think I just got overheated a little. My body didn't know what to do with high 50 degrees.

I need to look up some treadmill tips - so boring.

They didn't call me to get Sam today. He did cry a lot, but was able to be distracted by a couple of books.

Samuel is struggling with separation anxiety in general, and today they had to call me back down to the childcare room. He kept getting upset when others got dropped off / picked up.

Mysti's Workout - Feb 9th

Distance: 4.5 miles

I'm so OVER winter, and find it annoyingly ironic that I picked the coldest winter to keep motivated with running. 

A few things keep me going...fleece lined running pants, the thought of "starting over" in the Spring makes me cringe, doing something for myself outside of husband and kids and I've learned to enjoy the cooler runs - fresh air.

Check out my cute new socks and pants. 33 degrees seemed like enough of a heat wave to wear capri pants vs my lined pants :)
It's barely got over 15 degrees this week.

Michelle's workout (attempt) 2.3.14

So I attempted to workout yesterday.  It was probably nice enough to run, but I got off work late, then Heath was hungry and fell asleep while nursing (his way of tricking me into holding him during his nap).  By the time he was awake it was already 5:15.  I wasn't even dressed, so I figured I would try to get a Jillian Michaels workout in.  

I only make it 10 minutes before Heath was having a full on meltdown.  He was fussy and singing did not work this time.  He also would get mad when I would get on the floor and not play with him.  I tried the week 2 video and it has lot of plank exercises... so I think next time I will not do that video when he's not in a great mood.  

I guess 10 minutes is better than nothing, but it was a stressful 10 minutes...which is not the point of working out in my opinion!

PS. I'm so THANKFUL for Michelle for many reasons. One big reason - calling me almost 5 years ago and asking if I would train with her for a 10k. I told her she was crazy, but agreed to train for 5k and keep each other accountable and motivated.

Did another ripped in 30 on my 2nd snow day.  Heath was awake, and started to get a little fussy, so I had to sing some kid songs to distract/entertain him.  

Day 3 of the food change went well.  I felt terrible when I woke up (I think it was low blood sugar), but this morning I felt better.

Mysti's Workout - January 29, 2014

Distance: ?
Time: 30 minutes

I ran for 30 minutes around an indoor track. Who wants to count how many times you run in a circle - not me. The 10 degree weather is greeting to me and I have no motivation to run outside.

Joining the Rogers Activity Center was my solution to 2 challenges: 1) the freezing temps this winter 2) Samuel's separation anxiety.
Mon-Fri 8-11, I can drop Samuel off for up to 1.5 hours while I work out. Options - indoor track, 4 treadmills, 4 elliptical, 3 bikes and about 15 various strength machines. It's small but nice and at $80 per year for family of 6 with free childcare = great deal. There are also lots of classes offered for $5 per class or unlimited for 2 months at $45.
I sound like a saleswomen, but it's not in the budget to join World's Gym.

Jilian Michael's Ripped in 30: Week 1 video

Did a Jilian Michael's video since we were snowed in today.  I actually did the workout while Heath was awake.  He mostly just stared at me.  He was a little fussy at times, but I got through the whole thing without a meltdown.

In other health related news: I am on day 2 of no processed food.  So far I have also managed to do it Paleo.  I'm going to try to stick with the Whole 30 model.  So beyond no processed, I am also doing no dairy, no grains, no legumes (beans), no sugar of any kind (not even syrup or honey).  It's only been tough in between meals when I want a quick snack.  It would be so easy to grab some crackers, bread, etc.  But I've managed.  I think the key is going to be getting used to eating more at meals (especially to offset the carbs I am used to filling up on).

Yesterday I was giving Heath a snack and there was a little shortbread cookie in the mix.  I didn't want him to have that, so I put it in my mouth... as soon I stuck it in I remembered I wasn't supposed to eat it...so I had to spit it out!  Ha!

14 minute run ans 7 minute walk. 

Went on a run by myself. The weather was actually decent. I ran up the hills, but felt awful after 14 minutes. I was disappointed at first, but realized it's better than nothing and the next run will be better.  It's going to be cold the rest of the week, so I'm not sure how much I'll run.

I did not run yesterday as planned due to weather. 8 degrees outside with 7mph wind.
Today was a heat wave of 35 degrees, but crazy cold weather hits again Monday. :(

The sky was really pretty this morning and took a new scenic route which helped my not so ready to run attitude and by the end I could have kept going.
